چکیده

We thank Küry et al. [2010] for their letter. They raise a number of issues with regard to our initial article that reported on variations in BAK1 gene (MIM] 600516) sequence expressed in the abdominal aorta (AA) tissue when compared with leukocyte genomic DNA sequence [Gottlieb et al., 2009]. In a subsequent letter [Gottlieb et al., 2010], we noted that when we compared the genomic BAK1 sequence in matching blood and tissue samples, the blood and tissue BAK1 genomic sequences were identical to the reference BAK1 genomic sequence, which primarily suggested that an unusual form of RNA editing could possible be involved. Küry et al. [2010] have raised three issues with regard to possible explanations for our results.

BAK1 gene variation and abdominal aortic aneurysms—results may have been prematurely overrated

We have read with much interest the article Gottlieb et al. [2009] about BAK1 (MIM] 600516), as well as the epistolary exchange with Dr. Hatchwell that followed [Gottlieb et al., 2010; Hatchwell, 2010]. Our reading was all the more careful that the message delivered by the authors was strong, and was largely echoed and amplified in many scientific and nonscientific journals. Much noise was made...

BAK1 gene variation and abdominal aortic aneurysms.

We sought to examine the role of genetics in the multifactorial disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), by studying sequence variation in the BAK1 gene (BAK1) that codes for an apoptotic-promoting protein, as chronic apoptosis activation has been linked to AAA development and progression. BAK1 abdominal aorta cDNA from AAA patients and nondiseased individuals were compared with each other, as...

BAK1 Gene Variation: the doubts remain

Introduction Since Gottlieb et al. [2009] published some intriguing sequence differences between DNA obtained from abdominal aortic (AA) tissue and blood, the scientific community has been attempting to understand their findings. Dr. Gottlieb’s group was primarily interested in performing case-control association analyses in abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) patients. However, instead of obtainin...

PCR-SSCP Analysis of Genetic Variation in DNMT Gene Family in Holstein Cattle

Members the DNA Methyltransferases (DNMT) gene family have been shown to play fundamental roles in regulating embryonic growth and development from embryonic fertilization to postnatal life; through regulating the establishment and/or maintenance of specific epigenetic marks. The present study was conducted to identify potential reported mutations within the exon 33 of DNMT-1, intron 4 of DNMT-...

Intraspecies Gene Variation within Putative Epitopes of Immunodominant Protein P48 of Mycoplasma agalactiae

P48 protein of Mycoplasma agalactiae is used to diagnose infection and was identified as potential vaccine candidate. According to the genetic nature of mycoplasma and variable sensitivity in P48-based serological diagnosis tests, intra species variation of P48 nucleotide sequence investigated in 13 field isolates of difference province of Iran along with three vaccine strains. Samples were col...
